Sample Odes

Classes 9-13:

I hope you've all had a delicious dinner and that you are studying hard :) If you are still confused about how you should compose your ode, I have provided here a couple of examples that my students wrote last summer camp. Ch-ch-check 'em out...

Ode to Pasta

Oh Pasta, Oh Pasta,
How can you make pasta so fast-a?
You melt in my tongue
and your breath is gone to my lungs

Your delicious sauce
Is how I enjoy you, of course.
When the noodle is sucked
And the sauce is mucked,
I am eating you, Pasta.

You are the most delicious
Oh, how precious!
If an alien tastes it,
And then, so says the alien,
'It's too bad
It's just Italian!'

Here's another one...

Ode to my MP3

When I'm sad,
and when I'm mad,
you help me to calm down.

When I get bored
and just staring at the white board,
you help me to think of a song.
When I have nothing to do,
in a bored mood,
you help me to do something.

You always help me.
You always calm me down

I love you,
and you will always be loved by me

You Ode to Know (har har)

C-c-c-old winter morning at GLPS

Good morning! I am happy to report that Hyebin and I have reviewed your descriptive essays and the overall results are pretty good! For this week, we are working on Ode. Remember that an Ode is written for a particular object or occassion and therefore personifies it. An ode is meant to be lyrical, so bust out the modern poet in you! Let your creative thinking take over and have fun with rhyming.

TA Hye Bin

Hello! I am your TA, Hye Bin! I will assist Ms. Palomo by helping out your writing for first two weeks. Briefly, I graduated from KMLA and just finished my college this winter. I studied architecture in University of California at Berkeley.

I’d like to share my passion for architecture. My favorite architect is Le Corbusier. I have admired him for his buildings are very inspirational and beautiful. When I first saw this building, Villa Savoye, I was struck by its perfect form and beauty. I could not take my eyes off from it when I saw it in the architecture book. My heart was palpitating as if I saw my love at first sight. This one building changed my life entirely!

Also I have another passion for Italian. Italian is very romantic language. You will already feel familiar to some Italian words mostly related to food such as pizza, mozzarella, pasta, spaghetti, and espresso. Italy has been the center of the western culture for several centuries. The cultural richness of art, music, and literature has motivated me to continue studying Italian. I have learned Italian for 4 years, and I am deeply in love with Italian culture. Opera, art work, and Italian architecture always fascinate me!

I am excited to start working next month! Also I am excited to get to know you guys more! Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

Hi, all!

I know the past week has been frustrating, tiring and tedious. Now that all the blogs are up and runnning, hopefully we can breathe and relax and start blogging.

The first blog entry you will be posting is called Descriptive Essay. Please remember to focus on describing a person, place, thing, or event. Keep in mind the basic structure that we have talked about in classs -- Introductory paragraph, Body paragraphs and Conclusion. Some key elements to consider: organisation (your essay has to be cohesive; ideas need to be related and relevant), style (grammar and vocabulary), message (the focus of your essay). Don't forget to create a hook in your introduction to draw your readers in.

Hyebin and I look forward to reading your blog entries! Have a great weekend and Happy New Year!!!

A warm welcome to the GLPS XVII winter camp blog site! My name is Ms. Karen Palomo and I will be your teacher for this camp. I would like you to feel comfortable exploring the site and use it as a tool to communicate your thoughts, feelings, and ideas. For this project, I would like to start you off with understanding the purpose of writing. As well, I hope that you will enjoy the idea of writing and not be scared of it.
This blog is meant for you to delve into a world unknown to you, swim in a sea of adventure that could take you to places you have never been, meet people you've never encountered, imagine stories you never thought conceivable...and well...the possibilities are endless!

So, go ahead. Explore. Imagine. Lead. Soar. Jump in!
